As Ellis White was in his studio working on multiple song ideas to release long awaited follow up music to Smilin’ In Paradise, the track titled Keeping It Real captured the essence of writing and producing on a budget while creating quality music at the same time. The song has the similar uptempo funky vibe that prior recordings possess while adding an element of techno. This release marks a transition from the band scenario of Catch The Groove to a more quasi solo artist approach as Ellis White, touring with Catch The Groove which will be a rotating collective of talented musicians serving up the sounds of Contemporary Jazz & Blues with a twist of Latin. Except for piano and production/arrangement assistance from Trammell Starks, most of the project was completed by Ellis White in his home studio.
Starting out, the idea of living the road band life was the last thing on our minds. After we did all the local gigs, we realized the only way for us to evolve as a band was to hit the road. Over the next five years, we logged thousands of gigs — with the occasional festival appearance — in cities across the country. Our time on the road proved crucial in shaping our sound.
We’re packing up the gear for an extended U.S. tour in support of our new album. Our set list will prominently feature the new stuff but also dive into favorites from our previous releases. Check out our tour page for when we’ll be playing near you.
